Quick! Tell me what happened at the Battle of Concord?
Here’s why I ask:
Tonight was “Breakfast for Dinner” night at Jackson Acre! And, no, it wasn’t just cold cereal and pop-tarts. We actually had eggs and pancakes and sausage-and-gravy with biscuits. My oldest child mentioned that the jelly was Concord grape jelly. Then she mentioned the Battle of Concord.
Since she’s in fifth grade and they just finished studying the American Revolution, I figured she must have learned something about the Battle of Concord, like maybe the fact that it was one of the first battles in the revolution. You know, useful information like that.
So I asked. “So what happened at Concord?”
She replied with something like, “There was a battle at someplace named Concord?”
So I asked, “So what was the battle about?”
She just shrugged and stared glumly at the jelly jar, as if it held the answer.
Realizing she was staring at the jelly jar, I replied, “No, they weren’t fighting over grapes.”
My youngest thought that was quite funny and proceeded to riff on how the British and Americans loaded grapes into their guns and threw grapes at each other and the redcoats got stained purple. Such a vivid imagination!!
Imagine that – if the American Revolution was started because those bastards wanted our jelly grapes!
Our latest episode finds Miller being violated and he’s not happy. I wonder why?
Thanks for reading and enjoy!
